Common Indian phone scams

These are the most-reported caller fraud patterns in India right now.

KYC Expiry / Bank Account Block Scam
HIGH RISK

Callers impersonate SBI, HDFC, or ICICI bank staff claiming your KYC has expired and your account will be blocked. They direct you to share OTPs or install remote-access apps. No legitimate bank will ask for OTPs or ask you to install apps over the phone.

TRAI SIM Block Threat
HIGH RISK

Automated calls claim your mobile number is linked to illegal activity and will be disconnected by TRAI within hours unless you press a key and speak to an “officer.” TRAI does not make such calls. Disconnect immediately.

Fake Customs Parcel Scam
MEDIUM RISK

Callers claim a parcel addressed to you has been intercepted at customs containing contraband, and demand a payment to release it or avoid arrest. This is a common extortion script — hang up and report to the National Cybercrime Helpline at 1930.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Looking up publicly available information about a phone number is permitted under India's Information Technology Act 2000. Searqle uses only publicly accessible carrier allocation data and community-submitted reports. We do not access private subscriber records held by operators or TRAI.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) oversees number allocation and telecom licensing. Mobile number portability is managed by the National Number Portability Centre (NNPC). Operators such as Jio, Airtel, Vi, and BSNL are licensed under the Unified License framework.
India has one of the world's highest volumes of telemarketing and robocalls. You can register on the Do Not Disturb (DND) registry via your operator or the TRAI DND app to reduce commercial calls. For persistent harassment, report to the Sanchar Saathi portal at sancharsaathi.gov.in.
New users can start with a 7-day trial for just €1.00 — giving full access to Searqle’s core search capabilities. After the trial, plans start at €13.90/week (includes 4 search credits) or €34.90/month (includes 20 search credits). All plans include phone, email, and photo search.
Searqle supports three search types: phone number lookup, email address lookup, and reverse image (photo) search. Each draws from public records, social profiles, and community data to build a comprehensive identity report.
Searqle pulls together publicly available data into one report. Depending on the number, results may include the registered owner's name, date of birth, profile photos, email addresses, physical addresses (current and past), known relatives, social media accounts, employment background, and any data breach exposures linked to that identity.
