Common Ghana phone scams

These are the most-reported caller fraud patterns in Ghana right now.

GRA Tax Refund Impersonation
HIGH RISK

Callers claim to be from Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) offering tax refunds or threatening penalty. GRA communicates through official letters and the taxpayer portal at gra.gov.gh. Never provide banking details over an unsolicited call.

MoMo (MTN Mobile Money) OTP Scam
HIGH RISK

Fraudsters pose as MTN MoMo agents claiming your wallet needs activation or verification. They request your MoMo PIN or OTP. MTN never calls customers asking for PINs. Call MTN at 100 or 0800 as soon as you suspect fraud.

Sakawa (Internet & Phone Fraud)
MEDIUM RISK

Romance scams and advance-fee fraud using fake identities are prevalent in Ghana. Callers build trust over time before requesting money transfers for emergencies or investments. Never send money to someone you have only met online or over the phone.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Accessing publicly available information about a phone number is lawful under Ghana's Data Protection Act 2012 and National Communications Authority (NCA) regulations. Searqle does not access subscriber records held by licensed operators.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) manages number allocation and operator licensing. MTN Ghana, Vodafone Ghana, AirtelTigo, and Glo Mobile are the licensed operators.
Report to NCA at nca.org.gh or call 0800 110 0NCA. For financial fraud, contact your bank and report to the Bank of Ghana at bog.gov.gh. MoMo fraud should be reported to MTN at 100.
New users can start with a 7-day trial for just €1.00 — giving full access to Searqle’s core search capabilities. After the trial, plans start at €13.90/week (includes 4 search credits) or €34.90/month (includes 20 search credits). All plans include phone, email, and photo search.
Searqle supports three search types: phone number lookup, email address lookup, and reverse image (photo) search. Each draws from public records, social profiles, and community data to build a comprehensive identity report.
A full Searqle report draws from publicly available sources and can include: identity details (name, age, aliases), profile photos, email and phone connections, residential history, family links, workplace and education records, social media accounts, and data breach flags — the depth of results depends on the public record for that number.
